Players are evaluated by our experienced staff. Players will be evaluated and placed on teams with players of similar ability to promote growth and development of each player.
Players in the Discoveries Junior Academy may train and practice in pools and with their specific coach. Goalkeepers will receive additional training at announced times. Fall season practice begins in August, and Spring season practice begins in January.
League Matches and Training:
Teams in the Junior Academy will play approximately ten games per season – All games are played on the weekend. Junior Academy teams will be required to travel to other cities for games and will likely have four or five home games played at Manchester Meadows. Team format is: U8 through U10 play 6v6 – two 25-minute halves. U11 and U12 play 8v8 – two 30-minute halves.
Teams attend 3-4 tournaments during each playing season. (Fall and Spring) Some may require overnight stays.
Classic Level Teams:
Players selected to Classic level teams practice 2 times per week. Goalkeepers are required to attend weekly keeper practice. Teams will play in the PMSL, a statewide travel league, and some teams will advance to the SCYSA President’s Medal Cup at the conclusion of their playing season – fall for U15 and over, and spring for U13 and U14. Those who reach the finals choose to advance to the Region III Presidents Cup over the summer. Players are expected to be committed to practice, games and tournaments.
Challenge Level Teams:
Teams selected to Challenge level teams practice a minimum of 2 times per week. Very often scrimmages are added in addition to regular practices. Goalkeepers are required to attend weekly keeper practice. Teams will play in the SCSCL, a statewide travel league, and if qualified, will advance to the SCYSA Challenge Cup at the conclusion of their playing seasons. Fall season is for U15 and over, and spring for U13 and U14. Those reaching the finals will attend the USYSA Region III tournament held over the summer. State Cup and Finalist will also qualify to play in the Region III East Premier League- fall for U15 and over, and spring for U14.
Premier Level Teams
Region III East Premier league is the highest level available to teams. Players must be committed to weekly practices and scrimmages. Their league season matches will bring them to league games throughout the region. Teams must qualify through their previous season’s SCSCL league play as finalist or state champion. Playing seasons are fall for U15 and over based on state cup results, and spring for U14 based on the current fall season standing.
